About Me...
My name is Jessie Neel, and I will soon graduate from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies and a minor in Business Administration. After graduation, I am uprooting my life to South Carolina, where I will be joining Teach For America. I will be working to close the educational achievement gap and fighting to provide equal educational opportunities for low-income students.
I hope to assist families and children in low socioeconomic statuses in my future career. Through my previous internships, employments, and volunteer experiences, I have had opportunities to work with this population. As an intern and employee of Manners of the Heart, a nonprofit organization working to transform the hearts of families and schools through character education curricula, I have had the chance to teach and evaluate the curriculum. In addition, as an intern at O’Brien House I have had the opportunities to interact with a different population, substance abuse adults. I have also had the opportunities to serve the low-income population through my volunteer experiences at the Capital Area Family Violence Intervention Center, St. Vincent de Paul, Heritage Ranch, and Baton Rouge Garden Alliance.
After my time as a Teach For America corps member, I plan to attend graduate school to earn my Master’s in Social Work. Hoping to eventually obtain my Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensure, I will be well equipped to serve the lower socioeconomic statuses population. I wish to influence others and impact the world in some, even small, way.
